Deal Island is truly an island and it becomes very apparent when you bike up the Causeway that connects the mainland from Chance to Deal Island. The Causeway is quite high and gives one a very impressive panoramic view of your surroundings. The height of the span allows large boats to pass below. The island itself is said to be “one of the last Bay type water and land mosaics on the East Coast left unblemished and untouched by the sprawl of modernism.
Deal Island MD - 6 miles long, 3 miles wide neck of small town living surrounded by the Chesapeake Bay and tributaries in Somerset County of Maryland's eastern shore." As a biker coming off the causeway, Adrenaline High will take you to the beach, which also is the site of the famous Skipjack Races held on Labor Day weekend. Then we will wind threw the island past the one room bank and a church that has the most traveled inhabitants. The grave site is often covered with water and the air tight caskets have been seen coming to the surface and talking leave on their own.
The bike trip continues to the end of the Island as we pass the working marina on the left. At the end we turn around and revisit some of the sights that have not changed much in the last 100 years or so. The Deal Island loop is part of many bike trips. There is a 65 mile ride from Salisbury or it can be a ten mile or so ride from the Farm House in Danes Quarters.
